Power is not given, it is taken.

Think about control.

When a human being have control over material things is called wealth.

When a human being have control over other human being is called power.

Therefore, it appears that power cannot be given, it is taken.

You can also , think at it this way. That position that you wanted. Many people were competing for it but you got it. That position was not given to your, you earned it. Maybe it was your brilliance, maybe it was your looks, maybe was your hard work, maybe it was the way you speak or maybe it was your networking or the connections you built up.

In the end, it was your actions that let you to it. Your power.
